When Lucky started his Occupational Therapy, our crash course in Sensory Processing started. We learned so much about proprioception, spacial awareness, vestibular sense, olfactory, etc. All big words, which we found very overwhelming. Now imagine how overwhelming it must be for Lucky to have all these processing issues. His meltdowns started making a lot more sense. His clumsiness. His under responsiveness to pain. His “no concept of fear”. To name but a few.
Understanding all these sensory issues helped us manage his input, so he can cope a lot better. And over the last two years we all have gotten a lot better at understanding, at managing, and in turn Lucky’s sensory window has grown and today he has come to a point where he can actually handle a lot more sensory activities, but we still have a long way to go!
